Pirkei Avot
Bet Shalom offers a wide range of courses and programs that allow us to learn about Jewish tradition, the Torah, the Mishnah, the Talmud and the Midrash, as well as the reform movement principles and contemporary texts about art, culture, ethics, history and Jewish philosophy.
TRADITION AND JEWISH PHILOSOPHY
Our activities seek to pass on the values of our tradition, the ethical observance of the mitzvoth and the working to the world repairing (Tikkun Olam). Our communitarian commitment and our principles as reform Jews force us to preserve this legacy and to encourage the commitment and active participation in the educational process by means of an egalitarian, plural and inclusive point of view, as well as a critical and stimulating approach to the issues addressed. Our programs are innovative but respectful of our tradition. For us the question is often more important than the answer.
Beside of our experts, we generally have the pleasure to enjoy the knowledge of our rabbis Ariel Edery, James Glazier and Rifat Sonsino, who give courses and seminars at Bet Shalom trough either videoconference or in person during their regular visits to the community. Usually, Bet Shalom also invites rabbis from Europe, United States and Israel so they can share with us their knowledge and their vision of Judaism.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND AND COMMUNITARIAN LEADERSHIP
At Bet Shalom we organize workshops and training activities, in person and on-line, addressed to members of Bet Shalom and other Jewish reform communities from Spain, Europe, the United States and Israel with the following objectives:
-
To train and to exchange information related to communitarian leadership, Tikun Olam, anti-Semitism, etc.
-
To learn programs and strategies to find new ways to the communitarian growth.
- To develop our communitarian activities autonomously: Shlihei Tzibbur seminar, technical counselling in communitarian programs and services…
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND PERSONAL WELLBEING
The personal skill dvelopment and the pursuit of wellbeing are values universally accepted. In Judaism these concepts have an more depth and meaning; strengthening our skills and taking care of our wellbeing, helps us to be better people, and to better understand ourselfses, both individually and socially as reform Jews.
In Bet Shalom we offer a regular diary of conferences, courses and workshops to promote personal wellbeing, and strong and enriching relationships between our memeber. In our communitarian space we organize activities on health, nutrition, physical and emotional balance, yoga, dance (rikudim), languages, visual arts, literature, cinema, cooking and much more proposals that we renew every semester.
