PURIM 5785

Purim and Bet Shalom!
Joy in Community.

Purim is one of the most joyful and vibrant holidays in Judaism, and at Bet Shalom, our progressive Jewish community in Barcelona, we celebrate it with enthusiasm, unity, and tradition. This holiday, which commemorates Queen Esther’s bravery and Mordechai’s cunning in saving the Jewish people from the wicked Haman, is a time of joy, costumes, and generosity.

At our Purim celebration, we enjoyed an unforgettable experience. The reading of the Megillat Esther was the heart of the event, reminding us of the importance of resilience and Jewish identity. And plenty of noise for Haman! Whistles, noisemakers, and loud boos filled the air.

Beyond the reading, we shared our joy through music and dance. Attendees came in costume (so much fun!), bringing color and life to our synagogue. Of course, we didn’t miss the traditional Hamantaschen, a must-have sweet during this holiday, reminding us how the Jewish people overcame adversity—and yes, we always make sure to eat well!

Purim is also a time to strengthen solidarity and our commitment to others. Following the mitzvah of Matanot LaEvyonim, we made donations to those most in need, reaffirming our dedication to social justice from a Reform Jewish perspective.

To wrap up the celebration, we shared a beautiful Reel on our Instagram account, highlighting the most emotional and festive moments of Purim at Bet Shalom. Don’t miss it—and follow us on all our social media channels!

Social media is a powerful tool to connect with the community and share the richness of progressive Judaism with the world.

Without a doubt, celebrating Purim reminds us that the history of the Jewish people is full of challenges—but also of courage, joy, community… and yes, delicious food too.

At Bet Shalom, we continue building a vibrant, inclusive Judaism, rooted in our shared values.

May the joyful spirit of Purim stay with us all year long!

Happy Purim!
